Blog gives amazing information about beautiful quilts

Bloggers’ quilt festival Fall 2011

Welcome! This is my first time joining in with Amy’s Blogger’s Quilt Festival! Like many others I don’t have a just finished quilt to show – well actually I do, but it’s a gift and I don’t want to ruin the surprise!

So today I am going to once again share the doll quilt I made as part of the Down Under Doll Quilt Swap {no 2}.

I loved making this little darling (and it was my first ever blog post!). It was my first swap and my first doll quilt and it was totally self-indulgent. I used white as the background, I used lots of small appliqué pieces in different bright prints and I hand quilted it with perle thread – although it was of course all about my partner’s likes and not mine right?

The design is by Piece O’ Cake. I needle turn appliquéd this by the pool on holidays last Easter. What a perfect hand sewing environment – chaise lounge, no wind, a shady umbrella overhead, a waiter to bring food and drink and the sunshine sparkling on the water – bliss!

I hand quilted around the pattern and then also echoed some of the appliqué shapes in the larger white spaces. I hadn’t hand quilted for a while as a large quilt takes me forever, so this little dolly was quick and fun.

I’m sure you can tell I love it as it features in my blog header and my avatar. I didn’t mind sending it off though as the gorgeous Lydia who received it also loves it and it hangs in her sewing room.

You can visit the Bloggers’ Festival here, enjoy!
