To celebrate Christmas in July I thought I would share some Christmas blocks I have been working on. For those of you who live in the northern hemisphere Christmas in July is so we folk down under can have a winter celebration. I don’t go to the effort of putting up a tree or anything, it’s more of an excuse to have a lovely roast dinner and indulge in more Christmas pudding.
This year Christmas (the real one in December!) will be at our place so what better excuse do I need to make a Christmas quilt? We all know how it is in about October/November when we see festive quilts and wish we had started one in February so last year I signed up for The Night Before Christmas by Bunny Hill Designs block of the month from the Fat Quarter Shop.
I fell in love with the cuteness of the design, that it was applique and it used gorgeous La Petite Ecole by French General fabrics. I don’t usually go for cute designs and little mice but for Christmas I think this level of cuteness is great! With decorations I can go a bit overboard (time to make Christmas bunting do you think???). I prefer a tree that is big and decorated with all colours and styles of bauble rather than a two tone colour theme.
Making Christmas blocks in the winter seems pretty normal too so I think it’s easier to start a Christmas project at this time of year in Australia. Have you been working on any Christmas projects?
